About Choklet

CHOKLET is a small independent business based in Newark, Nottinghamshire and run solely by myself, with the odd bit of help from my family.

All of my chocolates have been carefully, passionately and time consumingly handcrafted by myself, at home, in my specially adapted kitchen and purpose built store room. I only use the finest Belgian chocolate and the highest quality ingredients.

The business evolved from a life long passion and hobby of making sweet creations for friends and family such as desserts, novelty cakes, intricate celebration cakes and chocolate wedding cakes. Many of the creations incorporated chocolate in some way. I’d always enjoyed making small, fiddly things that required great patience and manual dexterity and I wouldn’t be happy unless whatever I was making turned out perfect. These personal attributes seemed ideal when one day I decided to have a go at chocolate making. I signed up for and completed an intensive chocolate making course returning home with bagfuls of chocolates I’d made on the course. I received lots of positive feedback from family and friends, who did and still do act as willing guinea pigs tasting my chocolate creations. Encouraged by the positive feedback by friends and family and the need to find alternative employment following my marriage break up, I bravely decided that it would be a good idea to become a full time chocolatier. I had previously been running a small retail business in partnership with my ex husband, so I had already gained experience in the essential business skills required to run my own business. He was happy to continue that business by himself so I could concentrate on making and selling chocolates and thus Choklet was born.

I chose the business name ‘Choklet’ because it is a very simple, memorable name, which requires no imagination as to what it is I actually sell. The name Choklet comes from the Indonesian translation of ‘chocolate’ i.e. ‘coklet’. My ex husband is Balinese (Indonesian) which is where the Indonesian connection comes from and a place I am still very fond of. The letter ‘c’ in Indonesian is pronounced ‘ch’, so to avoid any confusion with pronunciation in English, I added in the ‘h’ resulting in ‘CHOKLET’.
